Planet Passionate Day 23.09.2024

Planet Passionate Day took place for the first time at Caplast in Nordkirchen on 23 September 2024. The event began with a presentation by the management on the background to this day. Afterwards, 6 groups were drawn by lot, and the colourfully mixed teams then started with the various stations and activities.

We had a visit from the local beekeepers' association with a presentation on bees, their importance for useful and ornamental plants and for agriculture. We learnt about everything from the structure of a beehive to the harvesting and processing of honey.

For our second project, we built small birdhouses using a small construction plan and pre-cut wood and hung them up on the company premises to provide the birds with a safe haven, especially in the cold autumn and winter months. To protect the small dwellings, the roofs were sealed with the remains of underlay sheets.

Together with a representative from Caritas, colleagues started a planting campaign and contributed to the greening of part of the company premises. Our outdoor terrace was planted with numerous seedlings, trees, shrubs and perennials. This is not just a small contribution for birds and insects, but also for our employees, who can enjoy their lunch break in the green outdoor area in summer.

There was also a presentation by the "Food Sharing" organisation elsewhere. What does food sharing mean and how can we all make a contribution? We learnt how we can save food ourselves and therefore use our planet's resources more responsibly. This doesn't just apply to correct storage to extend shelf life at home, but also to food waste in companies, supermarkets and the catering industry.

To conserve and recycle resources, some groups processed cardboard tubes. The cores came from old stocks and previous raw materials and were cut to a small size so that they could be reused in our production.Recycling helps to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfill.

Some teams took the time to collect rubbish on and around our company premises. This is not only a contribution to reducing soil and water pollution in our immediate environment, but ultimately to our health as these pollutants can enter the food chain.

We had lunch together. We ordered a food truck, which spoilt us with delicious burgers, fries and bowls on site. Finally, we cleaned up together.

This day was great fun for all of us and strengthened our team spirit once again. We are already looking forward to great new ideas and projects for the next Planet Passionate Day!
